Have you had it in the water yet? I just put a 7 on my boat and had to do very little adjustment.
Ive had it out one time. Everbody says to run it on shallow mode, leave sensitivity on auto. I idled around and its so cluttered you cant make the fish. I have tinkered with the noise and clutter option but dont seem to help
Go over to http://www.bbcboards.net/zeromain and go to the Lowrance Forum. If anyone can help you out those guys can.
I have the hds-7 and it's great. it will take you a little time to get use to it, then you will love it. if yours isn't running the 4.0 software. that would be the first thing to do. go to lowrance and update your unit to 4.0 then you will like it much better. you will find you get better arches in deeper water, in water under 10 feet, the arches turn to blobs. but if your in shallow water slowing down your ping speed will give better arches. try these settings. sensitivity--minus 7% colorline 72% range 50 ft frequency 200khz hope this helps.
Randy Kuhens of kicknbass.net guides on KY Lake does a sonar class. He is on Lowrances ProStaff and will help you setup your HDS units. He is very knowledgeable and you would be surprised at how involved and in depth setting up an HDS unit can be. There are alot of details. I highly suggest giving Randy a shout on email.
