    curado reels question

Whats the deal with the 2012 curado reels? Their priced cheaper and I think their made in Malaysia? Has this reputable reel outsourced and lost its quality? I was going to buy 2 more this year but am wary now, does anybody have any info on this????

    Re: curado reels question

They are now made in Malaysia but I believe most of the components are the same as last years models....Only difference is that this years Curado is basically the same as last years Citica....This years Chronarch is the same as last years Curado...I'm sure there are a lot of guys on here that know a lot more about the inner workings of a reel than I do but this is the general concesus I've got from reading a lot of reviews from a lot of guys who have had them apart....I personally use all 200E's and don't see myself investing in this years model

I did read alot of post that say's don't trash them before you try them so who knows. I would like to take one apart to see how it is made and how close it is to the e models..
I have yet to see anything come out of Malaysia that was worth covering up with dog shzit and setting a fire to..

    Re: curado reels question

Looks like Shimano is making thier price points match other brands. Previously they did not have a $200 baitcaster. IMO last years Curado is the in the same class as Abu's and Pflueger's and Quantum's $200 reels. Now they have the Chronarch in that price point and it is basically a Curado.

Okay thanks for the insight, if they had such a good product why go and mess with it? But who knows that earthquake could be the reasoning.

    Re: curado reels question

They have done this to tr and stay with the competition ie abu, pinnacle, lews. The new curados are the last models citica and so forth. The higher end name has been attatched to the next reel under it. Chronarchs are the last year model curados. You get the picture. It is not a good move in my opinion from Shimano by lowering their standards like this. I am a Shimano Guy and it is killing me. I will just keep using the older curados and chronarchs that I have and just repair them as needed.

    Re: curado reels question

Shimano moved the new curado and citica to the Caenan frame. They dropped the level in all their reels. Basically it involves the trade of the dollar from what I have read on BBC. If you look at all other Japanese reel companies they have raised the price of their reels $20 or more. Shimano cut back on the reels and made them a little cheaper so they could continue to use the name at a price point. The new Chronarch is basically the old Curado E series. The new reels were moved to Malaysia to make them cheaper so they can be sold cheaper. I would have rather seen them just raise the price like Diawa did but they went the other way with it. I do like the looks of the new Chronarchs though! Oh and it deserves the mention that they make all the reels in all line ups with 3 different gear ratios. You can now get a 5:1, 6:1, and 7:1 in the curado and chronarch. That was a good move!
