    TWO different views of Honor and Responsibility......

    You know.......As we watch this horrible cruise ship accident in Italy unfold, it is CLEAR there are two very different value systems in play here.

    In the United States, you have "Sully" the captain of that jumbo jet that hit a flock of birds on takeoff, who landed his plane AND STAYED with it until the last passenger was offloaded. A Clear example of an American Hero.

    On the opposite side of the fence, you have this COWARD, chickenshit piece of garbage in Italy who LEFT his ship, BUGGED out on the first lifeboat, REFUSED to go back and LET people die........WOW.

    I personally hope they fry that SUM bitch.........WHAT a coward.

    Geo, Scully had no where to go. But he would have stayed with that plane reguardless, he never gave up landing it safely.

    This Captain of that cruise ship is beyond belief. How did he get to be a Captain????? Unfortuneately I don't think he was the first "cruise ship" captan to jump ship. I think there have been several, I vaugely remember on in the Idian Ocean that the crew and captain evacuated before any passengers during a fire.

    Most of these cruise ships, even the ones out of Miami, LA, New Orleans are registered in Libia, Hati and other countries that have very lax regulations. Guess you get what you pay for.

    Agree he did a great job landing the plane,but couldnt exactly leave it no parachutes.
    As for ship captain also agree.
    The company is at fault as well,life rafts didnt exactly work or release correctly and such a ship is most likly eq with sonar much exceeding what we as pleasure boaters use showing 1/4 mile or more to each side.
    Even barring going nearer to shore so a crew member could wave to family etc,should have been a ground collision alarm go off,much prior to actual grounding.
    Point is cruise lines may be cutting corners to keep afloat financially,and treat it like a business $ wise,costing lives in the end.
    Such efforts need to be rewarded not just with hefty fines but actual jail time not only for the captain but the owners.

    The comparison to Sully probably wasn't a good choice, but the point about this "captain" is a good one. He's a dog, and should rot in jail. Here's an excerpt from a transcript of his conversation with the Italian Coast Guard, to whom he had at first lied and said he was "catapulted into the water," then later said he had ordered "abandon ship":

    "Get on board the ship and you tell me how many people are on board. ... Clear? You tell me if there are children, women, people with special needs," a coast guard officer tells Schettino in a conversation that ultimately includes 10 orders for the captain to get back on the ship.

    "Get on board, **** it!" the officer shouts in frustration.

    Schettino tells the officer at one point that he is coordinating the rescue.

    "What are you coordinating there? Go on board and coordinate the rescue operation from there. Are you refusing?" the officer demands.

    "You have declared 'Abandon ship.' Now I'm in charge. You get on board! Is it clear?" the officer says.

    There were two elderly passengers that were rescued alive, onboard, TWO DAYS after that scumbag abandoned them there. 11 people died. He's in jail, and I hope he spends a long time there. Sure, include the owners in the charges, as well as the hefty lawsuits that are sure to come, but he was directly responsible, and completely shirked his duty as captain of that vessel.

    wow what a yellow bellied coward. The coast guard ordered back onto the ship to coordinate rescue efforts and tell them how many on board and he lied and said he was on board but they knew he wasnt. Thats really bad. It says in the video he is not in jail and has not been charged but under house arrest. hmmmmmm I wonder who he knows in high places!!Bet he wont see any jail time.

    Tha saga continues......Latest excuse is that this so called captain tripped and fell into the lifeboat. HA Ha Ha Ha Ha.

    Lets see, the bridge is one of the uppermost decks, the ship is listing 60 deg. He trips, falls UP and out of the bridge to starboard side of the ship and then down 17 decks and lands in a life boat.
