Re: WHAT.......China is building bridges HERE.......WTF....

I agree with you Chub, and I'd like to see the other bids too, BUT...

So what if the Chinese bid was a little lower than the US firm's bid? I've lost government tire bids for the department of defense when I was the lowest bidder, because I was bidding against a company owned by a minority, or a woman, or a company in an economically challenged zone. Their bid was higher, but they WON, because our government handicaps the bidding process to allow them advantages because of who they are. I could have provided the tires at a lower cost to the government, with better service, and more timely delivery...and I lost because one of my competitors was owned by a black woman in a rough area of a large city. I'm sure that was no coincidence either.

I'm not saying that's right, but our own Federal government can do things like that, but we can't handicap the bidding in favor of American firms getting these shovel-ready projects on our own **** soil even if they are a little higher than the Chinese bids? The Chinese are price whores that don't pay their people squat and don't pay the taxes that our companies do. They screw up pricing in the global markets. THAT'S WHAT THEY DO!!! They dont play fair. Instead of giving Americans some desperately needed work, we sold out to the **** price whores of the world to save bucks. We do it on everything else, so might as well here too, right?

I hope the **** bridge collapses into the river. (With nobody on it, of course....except maybe the jackasses who gave the bid to red China.)

The fact that these Chinese firms are doing it cheaper doesn't justify it, and the officials involved are being incredibly short-sighted. I guess they think they've helped their state's economy by saving them some money on this contract, but I believe that even if they had paid more for it, the long-lasting economic benefit to the state would have outweighed the extra money they put into it. Those dollars would have increased wealth in California instead of China. And it's not a level playing field when it comes to bidding, because the Chinese companies are owned by their government. And the guy's statement about how hard it is to find welders just doesn't ring true to me. Seems to me that if they really put out the word that welders are needed, they'd find them.

    Absolutely.

All of those Americans with paychecks to spend in the local economy would have more than offset any savings in one bid versus another bid.
