Yes, I did that in 2004 and have been back every year since! I'm going the 1st thru the 5th. When I get back I will post and if you want im me and I will try to help you out. Its an awesome fishery. Of coarse its all about the weather. Just a little hint, when the weather is at its worst we have done our best. Take WARM WATERPROOF clothes and go out no matter what.

That is a great time of year. I will be there the following week. Just remember that you will not be fishing next to the banks. Find a small inlet off of main river. They will all be shallow. pull into the middle and throw red excaliber Xr-50 traps. Also, go to Mink Creek and throw Rapala suspending jerk baits parallel with the rip-rap. It has produced nice fish. Find the grass in the shallow bays and you will find fish. If you are not used to fishing open water it will be hard, it took me forever to build confidence but after 12 yrs of going to the Big-G I have grown to love this type of fishing. Also, 6 in lizards in green pumpkin and blueberry have been great producers. When not in the main channel be careful and stay in the secondary bouys, it can be dangerous.

They are right it's all about the weather, we went last year the 1st week of March. We caught around 200 fish in a day and a half of fishing we didn't catch any big fish but we caught a boatload of 2.5lb-4lbs. the day we arrived the lake was on the back side if a cold front. I think we caught 5 fish all day the first day. The 2nd and 1st half of 3rd day we found some fish on a flat and I kidd you not we caught a fish every cast or evey other cast again good solid keeper fish. We threw 4 different color Red Eye Shad it didn't matter. The day we left my buddy caught a 10.2lb. We are heading back March 16-19 let me know how you do. I would give you some suggestion but I read an article where they sprayed the grass in the creeks I like to fish. I'm trying to find out more info I would hate yo give you a couple of places to fish and no bass be there. One other tip find the grass find the fish

Im planning a trip there in a couple of weeks. Never been there, and planning on staying a week. Where are some of the best places to stay? What are the best areas to fish?

google search Scottsboro, AL to find a hotel of your choice I like to stay at the Days Inn it's pretty centrally located and has plenty of space to park your boat right outside your room I think its costs about $70 a night.

    Re: First trip to Guntersville

Hey guys, I am also going for my first time on March 8th. Any advice would be appreciated. I got me an Alabama rig, and need to know what baits to use. What kind of place to fish there. I see a lot of people say to find the grass. If the weather holds out looks like high 60's, maybe a little rain. I usually fish Cedar Creek Lake, Ky. Which is a shallow lake with lots of grass and trees. Its small though. The fish there like green pumpkin texas rigged baits. It doesnt have a shad population though. My dad is going and wanting to see about buying live shiners there to fish with, he is a live bait guy. Do they hit jigs, crainkbaits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, I got it all but would appreciate color advice and any locations. I dont have GPS but I am gonna get one of the detailed maps. Good luck to everyone going and please update us on how they are doing.

I have never used an a-rig down there I always use lipless baits. I will be there the 16-19, I would dare say a Yum money minnow or Berkley Hollow Belly Minnow in a shad color would work just fine I will have 4 rods out an A-rig and 3 red eye shad (red, chrome, and sexy shad) never have used live bait either rig your dad a rod with one of the above mention traps tell him to keep throwing and throw it some more he will catch fish and quit possible a real big fish

I just got back. The best advis I have is stay in Scottsboro and stay on that end of the lake. I stayed at the Best Western Plus and was dissapointed with it, not to mention that entire end of the lake sucked, its all in the main river just about. There are several boat ramps near Scottsboro all with shallow water. We did our best right before dark on shad colored swimbaits. In 2 feet of water. The wind was brutal and a cold front came through which made fishing tough. Stay on top of the weather and dont go unless conditions are right or you will be dissapointed.
