I'm glad your enjoying it, I have 3 more years to go. I have worked 39 years and always worked 10 and 12 hour days. man I can't hardly wait for it to be time, for me to be like you tyme. doing what I like with no time clock to worry about. what was that old saying, Jackie Gleason used to say. " How Sweet It Is "
Man knowing that I'm helping you enjoy yourself makes me enjoy getting up and going to work even more!!! Heck it's Saturday and I'm going in to work again!!! Enjoy your quitirement!!!![]()
Tell us Tyme, do you get all dressed up and go sit by the mailbox waiting for the postman to deliver your check? I heard that's how "Old Timers" used to do it.
I'm glad God has blessed you to enjoy your retirement. What do you do all day?
yeah, but the best is yet to come! Been on that rockn chair for over 17yrs.Soon you'll be able to enjoy poking, prodding, inserting in places that you dont want to think about. You will be able to watch your replacement fill your prescriptions,You,ll always keep a pair of reading glasses handy to read the history magazines in various doctors offices. And if you,re anything like me, you,ll be asking yourself WHERE THE HECK DID ALL THESE CODGERS COME FROM?
Tyme - Congrats on 4 years of enjoyable retirement!
I was just off work recently due to a surgery...I was scheduled to be off one week, but I'll tell you what...I cut it short by one day and returned to work because I could not stand another day here at the house.
Maybe when I actually retire and stay home it will be different...but from the little taste I got this week I don't think I'm going to do retirement very well. Of course too, the wife (friend, partner, pal) was at work...AND...(drum roll please), my mother inlaw lives with us, so maybe THIS had something to do with it, lol...
What is your formula for enjoying retirement? Do you do volunteer work, do you do something to bring in a little extra cash just for the heck of it or what? What do you do all day during the week? My dad stayed busy, busy busy when he was here living amongst us...always volunteering for Kosair Charities, the men's club at his church helping to cook a monthly dinner to raise money, etc. What do you do?
Bug had a good idea...put on your normal everyday "work clothes", put lunch box in hand and stand by the mail box when the mailman delivers the mail, lol...
Some folks just aren't retirement material.I have one guy I used to work with, retired, and does volenteer animal rescue.Another one worked well past his eligible date, had a stroke the first year.Another buddy found out that his wife, just couldn't stand him sitting around the house, she went to work, he bought a lot on a small lake, and spends most of his time there, she visits on week ends, and complains.ME I was born for retirement.First 10 years fished three days a week, we traveled, Then the wife started having medical problems,I love to read, bumm around, and do nothing! My adage is "nothing done right, is a full time job". I've been widowed twice, loved both of them. Am now almost a full time care giver, didn't plan that, but met a sweet woman who developed an illness that is treatable but not curable.Taking care of my property became more than a full time job, and since it was in a remote area, gave it up so we could move closer to medical facilitys.I liked the job I had, but they made an offer that only a fool would turn down, and I took it, Age is taking a toll, but not that bad.Do what makes you happy, one size dosn't fit all.
Retired 12 years ago. I have loved every minute of it. I don't have time to work anymore.
What do I do? A whole lot of nothing in the winter time. Have my morning coffee after I've reloaded the wood stove.
I spend a couple hours a day on the computer. I don't get the local paper delivered so I read it on line and do the crossword puzzle. Read what world news is in AOL and then visit fishin.com and Facebook and two other fishing related web sites.
I don't get all dressed up either. Winter attire is sweat pants and a flannel shirt. Social security check is auto deposited into my checking account the 4th Wednesday of each month so I don't have to wait at the mail box.
Mrs. Tyme and I dine out about once a week.
The first Wednesday of the month is "combat shopping." Gotta go to Kroger's to get my 10% off old age discount.
Spring and summer time is filled with lawn and garden care and naturally fishing.
I'm a professional at doing nothing and by 4 in the afternoon I'm half through.![]()
