My Dad (Harold Morrison @ age 21) Competed in this Race in 1949 You can see a short clip of his boat and hands cleaning the Spark Plugs at 1:50. ~ 350 boats ran this race. Harold was leading his class untill the Army Surplus Aluminum gas tank started Leaking thru small pitted holes. This required a pit stop at a riverside marina to put some sheet metal screws in the holes and refuel. Ended up finishing 10th in class. Can you imagine 180 river miles in an 11 foot boat with a 10hp motor ?
That right there was a cool video to watch! Them old time outboard motors are cool...top speed 40 mph but 40 mph in one of them boats was probably about all you'd want, lol...
