    Mice in boat

How does everyone keep mice out of their boats when stored for the winter?

    Re: Mice in boat

I had a problem with cats wanting to spend the winter in my boat and used moth balls to keep them out. Found some round cricket cages at a yard sale and filled each up with moth balls and toss one in front and in back seems to keep them out. May work for mice also.

When I was younger and we had a boat in our garage we had the same problem. My dad put mothballs in the boat and the problem stopped.

I ditto the moth balls, Place a few in a cup in all the air enclosed areas. If your boat is covered place a bunch in the middle of the boat. The smell of the moth balls will keep them out. Mice can do a lot of damage to wiring, floatation, seats.

Send them an eviction notice attached to a bucket of moth balls.

    Re: Mice in boat

I noticed my dog food was going a little quicker than normal last month in the garage. Until I pulled a couple rods out of the rod storage on the boat and a pile of dog food came out with them.
Mouse trap (with dog food for bait..ha) and 7 dead mice later boat is mine again.
Have to remember the mothballs next year and beat them to the punch

Does that hurt the moth? Friend of mine put a full sized towel in the boat his cat had slept on for 2 weeks. That worked too.

A safety note on using mothballs; don't use too many if storing your boat indoors. It isn't healthy for you. An inhalation hazard.

Jeez. I'll have to check that out. I use a total of three boxes between the boat and rod storage and other storage. Boat is in a six bay pole barn. wouldn't think that would be a problem.

Rat poison works too if there are no pets that could get to it.

I was out I'm the middle of the lake one day and there was a mouse right on top or the trolling motor.

Same thing happened to Austin & I last year. We were at Rocky Point on the river fishing a tournament when all of the sudden I hear "Dad, look on the back of my seat" (the passenger seat), & sure enough Mr. Jingles was there along for the ride. I caught him & sent him swimming & then another & another. We ended up throwing 5 or so into the river that morning. It was raining pretty good & I reckon thats what drove them out of hiding.

I checked the Nitro out yesterday & didn't see any signs yet this year. I have the moth ball thing going on, but was just curious if there was any other ideas that people had to share about this.

Thanks everyone for shareing their info.
