They are shipped with a lot of gunk on the bearings. DELIBERATE. Every one that I've purchased needed to be degreased at the spool bearing and the knob bearing.

Once I did this with some lighter fluid and then 1 drop of good reel oil the SCREAMED.

AND if you really want to get them to blast, replace the 4 10 4 bearings abex 7 bearing......MAN oh MAN. Be sure to relearn to cast and KEEP the thumb down, because you will create a TON of birds nests when you cast with a great, correctly lubed reel.
