    Re: Finding Skipjack and Shad

The upper dam (McAlpine) is good when the flow is right...usually 1 or 2 gates opened about halfway when the river is up a foot or so. Stay about 50 yds from the dam face and cast into any current seams you can reach. Have had excellent luck using pink grubs on a 1/4 oz jighead.

Two options on the lower end. 1) Work the banks around the two Clarksville ramps with sabikis, road runners, or jig/grub combos. 2) Walk down from the visitors center for the locks to the face of the lower dam. I've been told that it is a pretty long hike though. I believe the lock visitor center is accessed from the new little bridge across the locks built near downtown Louisville.

If you are referring to the boat ramp directly across from the lower **** I akways see boat and people on the banks fishing over there. Not sure exactly how to get to it though. Not real familiar with the indiana side. Also Do you have a pic of where you referring to on the upper gate becuase I cant seem to picture where your referring to thanks. Thanks so much for all the help guys. Im so new to the river and ive been studying all kinds of post, almost need a guide

The dam at the cumberland river is the wolf creek dam and it's a little over a 2 hour drive

Two white grubs tied about 18" apart on 1/8 oz jig heads. Throw them out and reel them in as fast as you can.

While you are there catching bait go ahead and bring along your pay-lake rods. When you catch a skippie fillet of a side or a chunk and try it below the dam for blues.

Exactly, the only thing I would change is throw the whole darn skip out there....you will forget all about paylakes. LOL

I was wondered how the catfishing was from the banks. But when you fish a trophy lake and catch about 20 fish all over 15 pounds in a 12 hour ticket it is alot of fun. I just got to learn how to catch diff bait then just bluegills

Cumberland city steam plant in winter is popular. Below markland dam in spring. Use 2inch curly tail grubs. 2or3 at a time.

I would think you can start finding them behind the dam here in a month or so. If you can't find them my buddy and I go to the cr and stock up on them for the year if you would be interested in buying some you can pm me. We sell them cheaper than any of the bait shops

If it helps any since you be from L-ville, call them, they usually have frozen ones. That way you could buy a couple to go fish from the bank at the dam by the hydros, and while there experiment with catching some of your own.
