I agree. But I also think people use "evangelical" as a derogatory term when all it really means is "Christian".

Sorry that was not my intent at all. The world is a much better place with people that have these strong moral atributes.
I did think that there is a denomination that is refered to as Evangelical Christians I may be mistaken, I'm still learning.
Wow in a time when people mourn for the loss of two innocent children people use it as a platform to promote their beliefs. They should learn there is a time and place for everything and at childrens funerals are not the right time nor will ever be the right place.
"Christian": to try to be as close to living as Christ, following the teachings and implementing those teachings and beliefs in their everyday lives. To try as much as humanly possible to live as Christ lived.
offdtop, I might have to quibble a bit with this one, but I understand where you're coming from.
It's useless to "try" to live like Christ. We can't. And trying to live like Christ doesn't make us a Christian; Gandhi shared a lot of Jesus's philosophy but can't be called a Christian.
You become a Christian when you accept Christ's saving work and turn away from your sin. If you truly are one, your life will bear fruit and your life will look like Christ's. It's not about "trying", it's about "being".
And, Jesus said we were to evangelize (Matt. 28). That was my point about "evangelicals" being the same as "Christian". You aren't living up to Jesus's definition of Christianity if you aren't sharing your faith in an evangelical way.

I don't get how this relates to theocracy or separation of church & state, or what it means to be a Christian. This is just another shining example of just how twisted and perverse is the thinking of the Westboro Baptists, nothing more. They're a bunch of whackjobs, and everybody knows it.
There is no doubt that are crazy as can be. They are protesting same sex marriages at the funeral of 2 little boys whose father killed them. What the heck is their problem? Oh yes mental illness. Glad to see that people are going to show up and stop them. I am waiting for the day that they piss off the wrong people to the point someone gets their gun out and blows those psychos away.
