    It will tend to break at the knot because fluoro is a harder material than mono. Being harder means it is brittle and using knots that have very tight kinks and turns will weaken the fluoro and thereby make it break easier. San Diego jam for fluoro to hook connections and bloodknot or seagar knot for mono/fluoro connections. Bloodknot is easier. Using a heavier fluoro leader than the mainline will help take full advantage of fluoros good qualities. If you like to use a c-rig or a dropshot rig you can't beat the mono main to fluoro setup.

    I like trilene 100% fluorocarbon. I have had trouble with palomar knots and use an improved clinch knot which I find works better.

    Love it and except for topwater, use it on everything. BPS XPS is what I believe is the best after trying several but will say Viscous is a close second due to the cost

    8 stripers this afternoon on a carrot stik, pfleuger president spinning reel and 8lb test P-Line flouro, no breakoffs, no knot failure (palomar knot)

    just my opinion;
    good knot properly moistened + drag set properly + correct rod for the application + correct line size for the application = no problems

    i wouldnt give up on flouro just yet, alot of good suggestions / ideas posted here....try em and see what works for you. keep in mind if youre breaking fish off at least you are doing something right....YOURE GETTING BIT

    Re: Am i the only on who dislikes Fluorocarbon ?

    I am sure that under certain situations that floro carbon is better than mono. As for me I have no intentions of buying any more. I tried Invizex,Triline floro clear,XPS,P line,Gamma,Yozuri and probably a couple more that I can't remember. My problem was breaking on a hookset when fishing a T-rig or jig. I tried palymor,clinch,improved clinch,san diego and improved san diego and still had knot breakage problems...and yes I made sure to wet the line before I cinched it down. My experimentation with floro was over a 3-4 year period before I decided to stop spending my money on something that lost me fish on several ocassions.

    What few times I used floro on moving baits such as crank baits or spinner baits, knot breakage was not very often. However when pitching or flipping I broke off very often. I think the reason for such high knot breakage in my case is due to the fact that I have a very hard hookset,espically when fishing a bait on tight line in shallow water. I even tried to back off on the hookset but that is a mental challenge that I could not overcome. For 20 plus years I have always swung for the fence with mono, so it is not easy to just up and change my hookset.

    I have always used Berkley Triline Big Game mono and plan on staying with it. Big Game is highly abrasion resistant and has the least amount of stretch of any mono line. Price is very good compared to other mono line but, I do not buy it because it is a good value. I use Big Game because it rarely breaks and is tough as nails. My only complaint is it has a lot of memory and can be stiff in cold weather conditions. I just wish I had all the money and lost fish that floro cost me...I am sure people swear buy floro line but not me.

    Fluorocarbon doesn't have a place in my fishing gear.It's stiffer and harder to handle than mono and I don't believe that the supposed less viability is a valid reason to use it.Are we to believe that the piece of highly visible piece of plastic,wood or lead that we use for lures that fish think are something to eat but are dangerous if they see a line attached?I come from a time before mono when fishermen had a choice of black,gray or green line with the lure tied directly to it but don't think there was a great or any difference in the amount of strikes when we went to clear mono.
    Planning a trip to Florida this spring where I will be fishing crystal clear shallow water for pompano.My normal rig is 30 lb. braid with a 10 lb. mono leader but will set one outfit up with the lure tied directly to the braid to see if there is a difference in the amount of hits.

    I tried a couple of brands of flouro before I found one I liked (Trilene 100%). The problem I had was that it is stiff and other brands did not come off the reel that well; castability was awful.

    I use flouro for the following reasons; one it sinks; most things I throw I want to sink or if cranking get down in the water. Another reason is there is very little stretch compared to mono. I was loosing fish because of not having tight lines. I also think it is more sensitive than mono. Visibility is a bonus but not a main reason to use flouro.

    I can understand breaking off for those that do hard hooksets. I think for hard hook setters; they should go with braid. I would use braid anyway if going into heavy stuff; you can use heavier line that is less stiff. I think if you are going much over 17# test you should go with braid. I use 17# flouro on one reel; its almost like wire. I would not go any heavier than that with flouro. I like 8# on spinning reels and 12# typically on bait casters.

    But like another said; if you tried it awhile and something already works better; stick with it.
