Ky lake??
Hi guy's!
My buddy and I are trying to plan ahead for a fishing trip to Ky lake in early may. Last year we went to the Big Sandy area and had massive amounts of success catching big bluegills. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about other parts of the lake for gills in early may? Bloodriver? Barkley?
Thanks for the help! Happy fishin!!

Re: Ky lake??
I like using several dozen small size minnows under a bobber. Works well on the bigger gills, and also catfish and bass. If it's an early spring, you might get in on some early catfish spawning action....they bunch up around riprap and rocky bars gorging themselves preparing for the spawn. Most times Mother's Day is a good reference point for the start of it. Some of the places I've had the best luck for the catfish in May includes along the riprap in the canal, Ky Dam, and the breakwall at Kenlake. Usually in the canal, you get a few bonus smallmouth if you're using minnows...usually right before dark is when those smallies turn on. The best spot on the Kenlake breakwall was on the side opposite of the marina, right where it makes the 90 degree bend. Sometimes they would be a good long cast out there, or sometimes right up against the riprap. Either minnows or bait shrimp worked well about 3 ft under a bobber. Those catfish will move up and down that wall, so really anywhere along it is good to try, but where it makes the bend was always the most consistent for me.
