Really dumb baitcaster question

Yeah there's an edit option. Can't remember where? Oh I found it just have to go back once you submit I think?

There is an edit option. It's right down there by the Reply button, but you only have a certain amount of time to do it, five minutes I believe.

Correction: Right next to "Reply with Quote."

I too am new to baitcasters, and I wanted to go with a left-cranking reel to start with, but the Johnny Morris I got on sale at BPS wasn't available in a left-cranking model at the time. That's true of a lot of models of baitcasters, even some high-end models, so I think it's good to get comfortable with a right-cranker. I still cast with my right arm, then immediately switch hands, and I was surprised how quickly I got used to doing that. But I still plan on adding at least one left-cranking reel to my arsenal at some point.

Just a little update:

Today, with my 3/8oz practice plug, I tried turning all the brakes off on the reel. First cast was probably the farthest I've ever cast. Second cast wasn't so great and I had an epic backlash. So I put one pair of brakes on and I think that's a good setting for me at the moment. I'm still getting used to casting by taking the rod behind my back (with my left hand) because I cast my spinning reels in a kind of sidearm motion with my right hand (probably the wrong way but just how I've always done it). I am focusing more on using my wrist when I cast the baitcaster and I'm trying to get down when I release my thumb off the spool.

I have one other question, how tight should the line be on your spool? I'm assuming it should be on there pretty good and I've become paranoid about that when I retrieve.
