You do need a mapping card if you want depth contours of the lakes you're fishing (depending on the lake). I recommend the Premium chart, has the same 2D contours as the platinum, but runs faster on the 798ci HD SI and is $50 cheaper.

Just bought a HB 798ci DI unit with GPS. Do I need to buy a map chip for this unit? If so,
do you recommend the Platinum or Premier map card for this unit? I have heard the platinum runs real slow with this unit, true?? What do you recommend??
Any info appreciated.
Thanks,
Bassky

Platinum is no-go on the 700 series Humminbirds. Only choice is the Premium.
09Z7Sc is right. Premium only.
I don't mean to take over this thread - just a quick question regarding Navionics Premium - does this chip show creek channels/creek beds? The website claims it does, but after playing around with it at BP last night, I couldn't see any indicators of creek channels. What are your thoughts?
i down loaded the pc app on my computer at home for 25 dollars, and no it doesnt show diffinitive creek channels on all the lakes that i looked at .depth contour lines which kind of show where the channels are about in the deeper water. still, for the money its agood deal if u liketo map study.
Thanks everyone. I now have to buy one. Who has the best price for the Premium East chip?

I asked the same question on the Humminbird Side Imaging Forum. The response from the group was stick with the premium. The platinum was too slow and didn't add much.
When I was chip shopping a couple of weeks ago the prices were the same everywhere although I only looked at 3 or 4 places.
