If you think Churchill Downs is not hurting you are delusional. Pick ANY weekday and go to Churchill when live racing and see what a ghost town it is. If it was not for inter-track wagering Ellis and Turf would be closed. Churchill will not close because the Derby abs Keeneland will not close because of all the farms surrounding Keeneland want to see their horses run, the attendance and the sales that coincide with live racing. I do gamble, not now because of my financial situation, but will say and my wife will happily verify that I have cleared and filed proper taxes on $120,000 profit over our first 6 years of marriage. Won $50,000 in Jan of 2003 alone that paid for our adoption of our son. Gambling is not all a bunch of low life's giving their money away. I am fully aware Vegas wasnt built on winners. But if adults would consider it entertainment, for example if you were to spend $100 on a night out eating, movie and such but choose the Casino what is the difference? As someone that has bet and followed horses for 25 years, the horse industry is in dire trouble. One by one, trainers are moving their stables to other states, horses are not selling for what they used to and Ky tracks are in Deep trouble (except Keeneland). I live in Frankfort and play at the boats outside Louisville or Cincy. I am helping IN with their economy. Ohio has approved gaming at their horse tracks, which will add to Ky's problem because River Downs in Cincy will draw more horses from Turfway in Florence. If someone wants to go to a Casino from Ky, they can by driving an hour and change from just about any direction. No matter where they are at, to each is own let adults make their own decisions about going to Casinos.
