It goes into float mode after a while and does not draw very much current. It monitors the voltage on the batteries until they drop below a certain point and then it tops them back up. It is the best way to maintain your batteries.

No. It is better on the batteries too. There are a lot of different schools of thought on this. Some guys will tell you that is not the best idea, but all of your manufacturers will tell you to keep it plugged in 24/7. That is what I have always done and I have not had any issues.
