I have one, I usually only take it with me when I fish Erie or St. Clair. But yes it absolutely will slow you down in heavy winds if used correctly.
I actually have two and have used them a lot in Florida - they will keep you fishing in some stiff winds.... I am heading to St Clair in June and will be taking them with me.
thanks for the help guys i don't fish big water but i have a 17 foot aluminum bass boat and once the wind gets over 15 mph it makes it impossible for me to fish slow. i get thrown around like a ragdoll
I have one that I use on a 17’ aluminum boat. It really helps slow you down. I use it mainly when I’m crappie fishing and the wind gets up too bad. If you want to try something cheap you can get 1 or 2 five gallon buckets and drill holes thru the bottom and tie them off with about 10-15’ of rope. I like the sock because you can fold it up and put in a compartment.
That's great news! I'm wanting to use or for crappie fishing more than anything
I would recommend buying one size bigger than what is recommended for your boat.
We use them at Ky Lake in the spring drift fishing the flats for crappie. A trick that will keep it off the bottom in 5' of water is tie a 2 liter bottle a couple ft in front of the sock.
So would the 16-18 work better or the 18-20?
I would personally buy the 18-20 if I was you. We have bought two of them and the first one was what was recommended for the size boat we were in and it worked fine but the second one we bought was a size bigger and it really slowed us down. The two that we use are he bps ones that you are lookin at. Well worth the money!
