I think the tricky math statement is really streching it. Clinton not only balanced the bugit but had a surplus at the time his term ended. Not only did he reduce the national debt but he had a plan in place to actually pay off the national debt.
Now tricky math is where G.W. and even Obama have excluded all of the cost for the wars in Afganistan and Iraq in bugit calculations.

Jackson also had the federal government assume all of the states forgin debt. This was the beginning of the US strong dollar and highest credit rating. This also brought the centraized currency in the US. He was very instramental in building the strong US economy that has endured the centuries.
