Senior night for the Big Blue..

Tonight at 9 against Georgia. Guaranteed Double Digit win and dominating performance by the best 7 in the Nation (yes I included Wiltjer because he is playing and shooting the ball very well over the last 10 games). But, I will say Darius Miller has been an outstanding representative of UK Basketball for 4 years. A Kentucky Boy that never got into any trouble and has rolled with all these top players coming in the last 3 years. From Drunken Billy G to the Elite 8, Final 4, soon to be National Title and joining the 1,000 point club to boot is an outstanding career. He could have hung his head and complained about not being a starter this year but he handled it with the same Class and Dignity that he has handled his career. He is one of my all-time favorite players (along with Chuck Hayes) because he has done everything that has been asked of him and then some. This team would not be the team they are if he moaned and groaned about not starting and he could have been a Cancer instead of the Quiet Leader that he is.

On a side note: I heard on ESPN that MKG says he is graduating from UK and has no intentions on turning Pro next year. I am not saying he is not telling the truth, At this moment, but after the season and all the potential talk of where he will go in the draft and all the $$$$ is considered I think he will turn Pro. As much as I would love to see him in the Big Blue jersey next year, I would hate to see him blow a knee out and hurt his Pro career. I could dream a little and have only Davis turn pro and MKG, Jones, Teague, Wiltjer all come back added to incoming recruits Archie Goodwin, Alex Poythress, Willie Cauley and whomever signs late

I'm just shocked that UK has a senior!!!!! I mean, don't most of their guys just stay one two years and use the university as a stepping stone to the NBA???

So what is Cal supposed to do, stop going after the best players in the country? Is this why Indiana and Louisville the past few years has not made Elite 8's and Final Fours because their coaches are not recruiting the best players and don't want to be a "Farm Club to the NBA"? Cal is the best recruiter in the country hands down. The rules are the rules that say a kid must come to college a minimum of 1 year before playing in the NBA. Until they change the rule, whichever coach in america that gets the best players will have the best results. Do I, as a UK fan, enjoy trying to learn new names and faces each year, NO. But rather I do that and have the success that UK is having or have Cal go after less talented players that will produce lower results just to keep them around a while, NO. The rules are the rules and Cal is the best at recruiting based on the rules today.

I'll be there! Gonna take my daughter to experience UK basketball. She is excited about going and I am excited just because I'm taking her to the game. Should be a good time.

The reason I said that is because of what you said about learning new player names and having totally different teams every year....I like players to come to IU because of our history and wanting to add to that history....not because they want to use us for a year and then leave to make $$$. Eric Gordon is a prime example....love him as a player, but I would have been happier to get a 4 year player and watch him grow and become more successful as a player. College basketball is not all about w's and l's...at least to real team/school supporters. Its obvious that most (not necessarily you) UK fans only care about wins, not how or who helps them get them! I love IU because I live here, went to school here, and love our tradition (which includes having success in the past b/c of great coaching with good four year players). Sure I want us to win and do well in the tourney, but not at the expense of one and doner's....especially numerous ones each year.

So you are telling me you are perfectly fine with being a doormat in the Big Ten, as long as the players stay 4 years? Really?? Come on now. You can't compare past tradition to today's game. Derrick Rose just signed a $250 Million Dollar extension with Addidas. There is way too much money in the NBA for the top level players to stay 4 years in college. Pick out your favorite IU player that stayed all 4 years and went on to be a successful NBA player. Go ask him if the money was as large as it is today would he have came out early. If he says NO, he is telling a lie. Conversely, Crean starts getting the best players and IU goes on the run UK has the past 3 years but he is reloading every year, you are going to stop supporting IU? I think not.

I can see this thought process with alot of people years ago but the way things are done now?.?.?.Naw, tradition is just about gone. IU cares about wins as well and money makes the sports world go round and thats a reality that some may choose to ignore but it's there.
If for some reason IU ended up with a Calipari type coach one day (I think more coaches will try and be like him in the future) alot of IU fans and supporters would change their tune.

Sorry...it was ALREADY asked and ANSWERED, and I don't believe he was lying.

Calbert Cheaney is Director of Basketball Operations at Indiana University. He stated on the Big 10 network that NO AMOUNT of money would have driven him to the NBA before he graduated. He was the first in his family.

OH...........he also had 13 successful seasons in the NBA, still holds the Big10 ALL time scoring record, and the following:

Naismith College Player of the Year (1993)
    John R. Wooden Award (1993)
USBWA Player of the Year (1993)
    Adolph Rupp Trophy (1993)
NABC Player of the Year (1993)
AP College Player of the Year (1993)
UPI College Player of the Year (1993)
Sporting News College Player of the Year (1993)
Big Ten Conference Player of the Year (1993)
Consensus NCAA All-American First Team (1993)

Indiana BASKETBALL is about more than wins.....it IS about tradition. We had a walkon last year who's grandfather played for Indiana and whose father was the team doctor.

Jordy Hulls grandfather was on Knights staff. Indiana kids WANTING to play for Indiana.

    Later,

    Geo

Wrong....Indiana will NEVER have a Calipari type coach. The administration hiring Sampson was enough stupidity to last a billion years. AND for the record, while Sampson was winning there were many, MANY diehards that refused to go to games. AH was empty and I was able to snag SCALPED tickets to the IU DUKE game that year..........

Under a real coach I would have NEVER been able to do that.

There are a few bad apple fans at Indiana, but for the most part, Indiana fans care MORE about integrity with getting the wins then the wins themselves. Show me one who doesn't and I will show you then that do.

    Later,

    Geo

Have never seen a game where I could not get at ticket to. Superbowl, NCAA Tourney etc. there's tickets to be had regardless of who the coach is. If you got you dough you can go.

Thanks for backing me up Geo....I agree with what you said 100%! First off Netboy, we are not the doormat of the Big Ten....anymore. We have gotten to where we are with good players who represent our school well...not use us to get to the next level. You basically proved my point with your response. I do not want IU to become what you described, caring more about $$$ and wins than tradition and integrity. Would I be ok with Crean recruiting and getting a few one and doners every so often??? Yes I would....but more as an exception, than as a rule!
