Re: Is UK that good, or is the SEC that bad?

Big Ten haters are coming out, huh?!?!?! Really, we don't have a title contender. OSU, MSU, Michigan.....IU has already beaten 3 top 5 teams this year.....so yes, it does have contenders. Favorites, maybe not. Just remember UCONN last year or Butler the past few years. The BIG 10 is full of very good teams that are well coached. The SEC is full of less than mediocre teams and one really good one. Same with the BIG 12, except they have two really good teams. Put UK in the Big 10 and they lose at least 4-5 games total this year. UK is the favorite right now...I'm betting they don't win it all...the favorite going in rarely does!

I agree UK is the favorite and if for some reason Davis gets hurt or gets in foul trouble in a game they are done. That guy changes the game by being on the floor regardless if he blocks shots or not.

Oh the Big 10 has teams that can be there at the end, you are kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

I'm a Big10 homer and I don't see it. A Final Four team yes - a serious threat under normal circumstances - no. Neither Butler nor UCONN were considered serious threats last year. So you have to throw the "anything could happen" blanket out there. We should just go to the BCS system and have UK and Syracuse play in the championship game....................

"Put UK in the Big 10 and they lost at least 4-5 games total this year". What a joke!!! Ohio State, Michigan State and Michigan each lost 5 games to tie for the conference title and you are saying Kentucky loses 5 to make it a 4 way tie at the top? So basically, Kentucky is equal to OSU, MSU and Michigan ......... NOT!! Not a single Big 10 team comes within Double Digits of Kentucky in Rupp Arena and there is no way in this world that they lose 5 games on the road in the Big 10. OSU could not beat MSU or Wisconsin on their home floor in the past few weeks. Josh Harrelson equalized the Over-rated Jared Sullinger last year when the Cats sent the Buckeyes home. This year no Harrelson but a fella name Anthony Davis, you may have heard of him, controls the middle for Kentucky. Another guy named Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is a lockdown defender that Buford for OSU will have nightmares about after the game. Michigan, NEVER, Wisconsin, NEVER, Minnesota, NEVER, Purdue, NEVER, Iowa - Nebraska - Illinois, NOT. IU beat Kentucky and it took the game of their lives and Kentucky playing it's worst game of the year for them to win on a last second prayer 3 pointer. Count that loss in the Big 10 and then figure out where the other 4 come from. There won't be a single Big Ten team in the Elite 8 and it would not suprise me if only Michigan State was left after the first weekend of the Big Dance.

I wouldn't be surprised - I see the Big10 doing about like the BigEast did last year minus UCONN. Just a gut feeling though I don't think this is going to be the year where their style of play meshes well against other tourney teams.

I'll be the first to say I hope I'm wrong.

Ohio State, Tri-Co-Champions of the Big Ten, is limping to the house like a 3 legged dog. 4-3 in their last 7 games including 2 home losses. But somebody must love them because a last second victory over Michigan State jumped OSU from #12 last week to #7 this week. Jumped over Marquette and Murray State, who both did not lose and Marquette beat a solid Georgetown team to boot. You lose 3 out of your last 7 games and you are ranked #7 in the country???? After Kentucky, Syracuse, Kansas and North Carolina there is such a dropoff in teams that it isn't even funny. Kentucky has beaten 2 of these 3, Kansas and UNC, might as well make it a clean sweep and take out Syracuse in the title game in New Orleans.

The Big 10 venues are much harder to play in those football crazy SEC gyms, not to mention we play basketball at a much higher level from top to bottom. The atmosphere in those buildings gives much more of a homecourt advantage. Do you really think that MSU, OSU, or UM could not beat them away from Rupp (IU did)? Thats crazy talk. I'll give you the fact that it would very difficult for any of those teams to win at Rupp. But on any given night the above mentioned teams could do it at their home gym. Part of the reason UK had their "worst" game of the year was because of the atmosphere in Assembly Hall....the noise....the tradition....so on and so forth. Its like that every night in gyms all around the Big 10....a little different than going to Miss. State....Georgia....Alabama.

Re: Is UK that good, or is the SEC that bad?

As much of a UK fan as I am, any team can beat any team on a given night, and if you look at the Big Dance since it's inception (minus a couple years where UCLA was completely dominant), the "favorite" typically doesn't win it all...Not to mention that Cuse' is also 30-1 so what makes UK such a clear cut favorite to win it all....To be honest, I could see where any of 4 Big 10 schools could find theirselves in the title game...All it takes is getting hot at the right time, getting a good draw in your bracket and have some of the better teams get knocked out by teams playing over their head for one game...The same could be said for the SEC...The way Vandy and Florida fire the 3's, if they get hot they can compete with anybody...I expect UK to make it to the Elite 8 purely on talent, then anything can happen...There's gonna be a game where they don't play their best or have foul trouble, and it might take an IU last second shot for them to advance...Put UK out there on a bad night and I believe there are about 10-12 teams that COULD beat em

Michigan lost to Arkansas and Iowa, a couple of powerhouses, and home to Purdue. Ohio State is 4-3 in their last 7 games. These are 2 of the Big Ten Conference Champs. Michigan State is the team with the best shot at going far in the tourney but all the rest will be lucky to make it to the second weekend of the tourney.
