Whatever you get be certain to get the "how-to" dvd(usually purchased separately). It will make it much easier to learn that way.

I am looking to purchase a GPS/Finder for my dad for his birthday. Nothing fancy, just a solid unit that he will be able to use. I have looked at the 520 and I remember Eagle having a unit that had an internal antenna that seemed to work well. Suggestions and pricing if anyone cares to help out here and also best place to purchase these from.
Thanks
Skeeter

I like my garmin units. I use them more for the GPS than the fish finder stuff though. GPS unit on the console and better finder on the trolling motor. That seems the best way for me to get dialed in.
My models are old. The console model is an old black and white. The front is a color.
If not being a color unit doesn't bother you check out a Humminbird 581 i. This is an internal gps antenna unit that's a good deal for the money. Checkout bbgmarine.com or look in the electronics forums on (bass boat central)bbcboards.net There are some really good deals to be had there.
