    Re: Let the Excuses flow....

Congrats to Vandy....They flat out outplayed the Cats and deserved the win...It's always hard to beat a good team 3 times in a season...Always has been, always will be...I'm sure Tim can tell you the same thing in high school districts where you play a team twice in the regular season and then again in the district tourny

I hope the Cats haven't peaked at the wrong time this year....In March it's always about who's playing their best ball of the year, and I'm afraid that was 2-3 weeks ago for UK...The loss may turn it around for them and get their heads back on track, but if they play the way they did in the SEC tourny UConn will oust them in the second round

All of that being said, does it really pay off to be the #1 overall seed in the tourny....I knew it as soon as I saw their bracket, and now all the "experts" are agreeing that UK couldn't have gotten a tougher draw in the tourny...Granted they put people where they do based on matchups, with UConn knocking UK out last year, and IU handing UK their first and only loss of the regular season, and of course dUKe in the bottom of their bracket for obvious reasons

Louisville couldn't have gotten a much easier draw as 4 seed...They got paired in a bracket with the weakest (IMO) 1 seed and no real (IMO) Cinderella teams

It's all shaking up to be a fun few weeks and I can't wait to get the action started...and even though I'm not a U of L fan I'd love to see a UK/UL final...Not only would it represent our state well, it'd make for a helluva topic on this discussion board

UK is an awesome team no question if and or but's. However today they just got beat. The team that executed better at the end of the game won the game and that was Vanderbilt.

I to agree with Woody and Tim and I have said it all year. This is a classy bunch of kids. I'm not a huge Jones fan, but what's there not to like about Davis, Gilchrist, Lamb and Miller. They just go play....Davis is a number one NBA pick hands down, this kid is unreal good, just unreal.

Louisville will not go far. Their defense is nasty but they just can't score the basketball. If they run into a Long Beach or Mich state or Missouri its lights out. I am happy with the BE championship and that was quite an feat for this group...

Mark, I think having people healthy has made a huge difference, as has the play of Siva. Oh, keep in mind, we already beat Long Beach St. once this year.

Do not be suprised if the UK/UConn match up doesn't happen. UConn has talent, but I question their heart. They flat out quit against Louisville in their game last month. It would not suprise me at all if Iowa St. beats them.

Yea good points but you forget, Calhoun is back on the bench. Those kids don't quit when he's coaching or he might kill two or three of them, lol.

True Mark, very true. I had forgotten that he wasn't on the sideline that game. Makes me rethink how I am going to fill out my brackets. It still wouldn't suprise me if they got beat in the first game. Even if they win, I can't see them beating UK.

The way it is supposed to work is the overall #1 seed is to have the weakest #2, #3, #4, #5 and so forth in it's region. That is the reward for being the overall #1 seed. I watched the show on Trutv after the brackets came out where they showed the entire rankings of teams 1-68. Duke was #6, Baylor was #9 which means #8 Missouri should have been in Kentucky's region as the 2 seed instead of Duke. As it stands, Kentucky got the second ranked #2 seed, top ranked #3 seed, and third ranked #4 seed in IU in it's bracket. It isn't going to matter because Kentucky is going to Waltz thru its region, Beat Missouri in the Final Four and North Carolina in the Championship Game

What rankings was that? AP/Coaches poll, RPI...........

If it was the AP/Coaches then it must have been last weeks because things look quite different this week. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings

Dook is the weakest 2 no matter what rankings you use, plus there are questions about Ryan Kellys health.

Mizzou is the team that got the biggest shaft if you look at where they are ranked because that West bracket is a beast.

I would rank the brackets from toughest to easiest as:

    1. West

    2. East

    3. South

    4. Midwest

They showed the full 68 team field from 1-68. Kentucky was 1, Western Kentucky was 68 for example. The committee picks the teams that are going to be in the field, then ranks them 1-68 and then that is how the seeds are assigned. Kentucky should have had #8, #12, and #16 for example since these would have been the worst of the 2,3 and 4 seeds. But they got #6, #9 and #15 instead.
