Agree. What I actually meant was, I don't know why its an issue to have to show an ID to vote. To me its a no brainer.

Could you imagine showing up at the polling place and they try and tell you already voted?

The laws being put in place is about getting a legit count of votes by legit voters and has nothing to do with race. It has to do with a legal matter........ now the Black leaders and obuma saw this as an opportunity to rally the black vote, poor vote, elderly vote and hispanic vote which is what they do. Heck the article mentioned Hispanics in the first paragraph which set the tone for the whole discussion.

To obuma it's always us against them. Rich against poor, class against class, whites against others, unions against non-unions, gun toting rednecks against everyone else, blacks against whites, sucessful against non-successful, banks against others, wall street against the others and on and on. He is a cancer on the american way of life and has done more harm than good.

Where do you live Parker? I think I could beat you to the polling place and vote under your name. After all, how on earth could they know I am not you? The way I see it, I don't have to prove I am you, they would have to prove I am not. Seriously, this whole idea of not proving who you say you are when voting is ignorant. If you don't see a problem with proving who you are at the polling place, then I understand why this state and country is in the shape it is!

First off let me say I agree 100% you should have to show picture ID before you vote, and yes, that's a no-brainer. And yes, Obama's objection to the proposal is mostly politically motivated, that's for sure. BUT I don't really believe that the motives of those proposing the law are completely pure, either. Obama is correct that this will affect mostly low-income voters, especially Hispanics, and we all now the majority of them would vote Democrat, and this IS an election year. Call me a cynic, but when I look at the timing, I smell an ulterior motive on the part of the Republican sponsors of this bill. I don't for a minute believe they would be pushing for this if the demographic it affected was one that voted solidly Republican. Then it would be the Democrats pushing for it.

I was in Prattville/Wetumpka last week working at one of our plants. I asked the clerk at the desk why the hotel was so crowded, and she said there was "some kind of march" going on. My status was definitely minority there, 90% of the other hotel guests were black and hispanic, of which about 70% were women.

I believe that photo ID should be required to vote, but I'd take it a step or 2 further. There should be a basic test. If you fail to name the branches of the federal government, the 2 arms of congress, and the governor of your state, all in English, you are not qualified to vote.

I simply said that I have never been asked to show mine and after I asked the people I work with they are not asked either so I find it hard to believe we are the only ones not asked. Also it has never been an issue for the republicans in the past because they relied on the latino vote. Reagen, bush and bush would have never stood for this and I will assume you guys loved them. I think your poll is flawed. I don't know a single person who doesn't have to show proof of who they are before they are allowed to vote. Every single person on this board admits to having to show who they are to vote, so I find it strange that 18 people you work with do not have to.

I didn't have to say that you didn't think you should have to show your ID to vote. Your post said it for you!

On the whole ID thing, is it possible we're just seeeing uneven implementation? Given the policy is each voting site says you have to show ID, just maybe some aren't doing it, not implementing the policy, ergo all our disagreements: We're just experiencing different things at different places.

Example, supposed to show ID to get a beer. Most bartenders take one look at this wrinkled up face and pass on asking me. But I know they should.

Little humor sidebar here: At a somewhat questionable establishment I visit for a beer sometimes to see (look only) the night life, I asked the bar maid why see didn't card me before giving me a beer. She smiled and chuckled, and said: Sir, I've waited on you at the bar on 4 seperate occassions. And each time I asked, you gave me a different first name. I just assumed you're either old enough to have a wife with a lawyer, or old enough to have altzhiemers....either way, you qualified to be served." ( I guess she was using the personal acquaintance rule :-) )
