    Mcalpine locks dams and hydros.

The upper gage is at 12.5 and the lower gage is at 27. With the flow dropping. Would the falls or the hydros be fishable? Are there any recent reports from anyone over there. Im going this afternoon after work and am trying to find out if i want to go there or down to taylorsville tailwaters or something.

I will probably have a catfish rod out and use another couple poles fishing with artificial baits for whatever may be biting.

I don't know what Taylorsville is like but I don't know how to fish McAlpine when it is that high.

Well at the last minute a buddy called me and said the dam went all out. So I unhooked the boat and shore fished. Caught two small blues around 15# and lost a good one on a whole gizzard...didn't let him run long enough, by the bite marks I'd say 40+ so the cats are biting. Didn't get a sniff sauger fishing. Water was muddy and rising.Fresh bait was the ticket, had all my bites on shad I had just caught...Then I donated my throw net to the river and had nothing but frozen bait and got nothing the rest of the day.....Chuck

When you say shore fished, where were you referring to? Only place I know about down on the river in right behind the hyrdos. Looking for other places you can get to on foot

The Falls of the Ohio on the Ind. side has several places you can get to when the water gets high. Try to find seam water or areas that have a foam line. You don't have to cast way out when the river is up. Any creeks that flow into the main river will hold fish also, I like to fish where the muddy water meets the clear.Good luck Chuck

You might want to start a journal and log what the water levels are and areas you can get to. I did this for years, also noting what I caught and where the baitfish were, temps, water color ect...Now it's just second nature. As said many times on here nothing beats time on the water. Chuck

Don't you hate when that happens. My current cast net might be one you lost as I retrieved it from the river 3 years ago.
