The Stock Market is up? Why?

Does anyone know why the stock market is up right now? Does anyone here really feel things are on the upswing? Is it just a bunch of fake, bogus phooey, someone somewhere making up?

I don't know about the rest of the country but in Kentucky there ain't a lot of construction going on right now...definitely not at the state level. Construction is the largest industry in the United States isn't it? Assuming this to be true, from where I'm sitting I can't see where the economy is doing all that great, even though reports say retail sales are up, less claims for unemployment are being filed and x-amount of "new" jobs have been created, I still don't see it happening and don't know what's behind the numbers supporting the stock market.

Brother, if you ever figure out the stock market, PLEASE explain it to me in simple terms. Seems it's driven by emotion as much as hard numbers.

The current Presidential administration and their PR arm, the news media keep telling us the recession is over, but I sure as heck don't see it.

If you are working in the industrial or heavy construction industry and are unemployed or want to change jobs, FAX your resume to EVERY company you can think of. Don't send just one and then sit down and assume there are no jobs out there. If you are the type who will not consider either moving or traveling to work in the industry, you may very well stay unemployed and broke. btw, there are tons of road and bridge construction jobs in the state of Kentucky at this time.

On 3/14/12, DHL invested $47m to expand the Americas hub at Cincinnati/Northern KY airport. They are building a 193,000 sq ft sort facility which will create 280 NEW jobs at the DHL CVG hub over the next 12 months.

Later I will write some comments from recent events that left our lives spinning for about 2 months. The very same weekend similar circumstances hit my sister, an accountant who does not work for construction companies.

The rising gas prices probably have a lot to do with it. I'm not saying they follow in lock-step, but when gas prices go up, the stock market often goes up along with it. Remember, gas prices are affected as much by speculators - ie stock market traders - as by supply and demand; sometimes even more.

I you ask me I don't think the level of the stock market relates to much of anything except the price of the stock market. Often the valuations and multiples don't even come close to making business sense (to me).

When people buy for the simple reason that the price is going up and the hope for a future sale at a higher price it is called speculation.

In my own critical opinion, I think it's a confidence scam. I'm feeling like it's just like the real estate bubble.

Scenario with stocks. Buy a bunch of a stock that has a fair rating. Market sees activity, price due to buy climbs, more buyers jump in on a rising stock, then original buyer seeing the increase bails in short order and takes his gain. Cycle, 5-7 days growth, then whoops, 3 digit drawback due to the profit chasers sell offs.

I just really do not think we are seeing true value or volume gains.
