My buddies caught a couple on topwaters last weekend. I don't think you will wear them out, but you can get a few.

thanks a lot for the info, i used to catch some good sized ones on topwater, some being in 20-30 lb range, biggest being a little over 33 lbs. I had a guy that goes down several times each spring tell me that he couldnt catch anything but barely keepers now and probably just wasting my time. Just wondering if its true, I sure did love hooking into one of them good uns every once in a while! Thanks again for your help

I know what you mean. I used to go every spring but haven't been in a couple of years. I have been going to Cherokee in TN. I'm getting ready to post my full report in the Tenn forum from last weekend.

I hate to say it but the glory days are over, at least for now. The **** draw down, fish die off, fishing pressure and now parasites it's no wonder it's so difficult to catch a keeper and trophies are just about non existent. But on the bright side it's still better than work. Still fun if you hit the right spot at the right time. Mean Morone may have the right idea about TN. So good luck and hopefully you'll prove me wrong.

Went down to Cumberland and fished Beaver Creek. Fish and shad plentiful right around the corner from the marina. Plenty of boats pulling boards. We caught more casting than on the boards. Shad and fish boiling at am and pm in the coves. Caught a bunch of small males on zara spooks, x-rap and jerkbaits. Majority of fish were caught throwing out in open water, not into the bank. I only fished a few hours here and there because it was a family trip, not really a fishing trip. Sat night was pretty good. as the storm was blowing thru, the action was pretty good. Caught 4 stripes and a couple small mouth right in the middle of that wind that came thru, once again throwing the jerkbaits into open water.
