Haven't fished bluegrass f&w, but where I have been fishing the fish don't seem to be in a rush. They are going in and out of their spawning areas, but I haven't seen any spawning activity. The surface temperatures have fluctuated on small lakes from 59 to 68 just today, with the lower temperature near deeper water. My guess is the water temperature hasn't warmed up that much below a few feet. By the end of this week I would expect to see some spawning activity. But all in all, the weather and fishing has just been awesome.

Hey what you doing catching Crappie??? I caught one nice crappie last week when it was 80 deg F outside. Water temps were still in the lower 50's last week. Can't go fishing much this year as I'm not able. But they sent my mom back into the hospital with a blood clot in her leg so I was able to sneak out for a few hours to fish while the nurses took care of my mom. They do good work there at Deaconess Hospital. Expeically the nurses on the 3rd floor. They were so nice to us.

Anyway I caught 6 crappie and was given one by someone else that was about 10" long. I didn't weight that one. The one that I caught filled the crappie size measureing cup and the tail was over the end of the measuring device. It went 12" when you squeezed the tail fin together. It only weighted 12 oz though. It sure looked fat and had a big hump on it's back. And she had some undeveloped eggs.

It's not just the water temp but the lenght of the day light and lenght of the night that tells the fish when to spawn. But I still think that they may spawn a little early this year. Remember that most every year the fish don't always spawn at the same time. The bigger fish will spawn earlier and get the better beds. Some fish may spawn later and in deeper water.

Congratulations on the catch Paul. Enjoy those crappie as they are good eating. I like to deep fry them up with the Cajen spicey flower and corn meal. I beat up a couple of eggs and dip the fillets in the egg and milk batter and then dip then in the flour/corn mean mixture and then drop them into oil that's heated up to 375 deg F. I use a thermometer to make sure that the oil is nice and hot before dropping in the fish. The temp of the oil will dip when the fish goes in but it comes back up in a few minutes. I have one of them little deep friers that doesn't hold too much oil so I can't put too many fillets in at one time. I have to wait until the oil heats back up before dropping in new batch of fillets. They make great sandwitches , the little 8" and 9" crappie. But I have to get about 25 of them to make a good meal as their fillets are small. But those small fillets are get on bread. My neighbors and I enjoy those fish sandwitches.

Catch a few for me. I got to come home to cut my grass but can't get the boat out today. I'll have to go back to take care of my mom again. She's out of the hospital and getting around good now. She can even go up and down the stairs. But she can't bend over more than 60 deg so she can't pick up stuff or bend over to get stuff out of the frig. That's why I have to help here so much. Called her surgeons nurse and was dissappointed to learn that these bending over restrictions are a life time thing. She will not be able to bend over or raise her legs more than 60 or 90 deg because her femer bone may pop out of the hip socket. I was told that after 30 days she would be released from those restrictions but that was not so. Still I'm going to figure out a way to get some fishing in this year. I'm going to buy one of those "help I've fallen and can't get up " buttons and put it on my mom. LOL

I got out on Loon for the first time this year on Saturday. Caught 22 bass and a nice crappie, biggest bass was only a couple lbs. No real pattern- caught them on a red eye shad, 1.0 and a spinnerbait in all the pockets on the east side of the lake.

Plan on trying Otter sometime next week but first im off to Guntersville for 4 days.

Ya I brought a few with me. Actually bought them from a guy at work that said he knows you.

Had a decent first day. No pigs but quite a few 3-5lb fish with a best five just under 20lbs.
