can you buy a fish finder with the trolling motor mounted transducer or do i have to buy it seperate. everywhere ive called only has the transom mount transducer. i tried calling hummingbird and couldnt get through. im looking at the humminbird units.
Newer or older units.
I have an older hummingbird on the front, and found a puck mount transducer for the trolling motor. Works fine.......SPENDY though.

Looking at a new side image unit. I want the puck type transducer. Will I have to buy it seperate or can I request the puck type instead of the other? Thanks for response geo
Side imaging and trolling motor mounts don't work very well together. If you are turning the motor you are fiddling with your image.
Ask the guys over on crappie.com. There are some electronics gurus over there for sure.
In order to get your best pics with the SI you need to be moving between 3-5mph. Also turning your trolling motor left and right will greatly throw off what you are seeing and where you are seeing it. Another thing I learned is that that my Structure Scan puts a hurtin on my cranking battery. So since it really doesn't work to good when fishing I just turn the unit off. Not sure about the SI though. As far as the trolling motor puck or the transom type, are you talking about the sonar transducer or the SI ducer?
You can mount a transom transducer on your trolling motor with either an adapter or you can get a transducer shield online. I have a 788ci HD DI on the front of my boat, and when that unit came out, it only came available with the transom transducer. I bought the adapter from Humminbird to mount it on my trolling motor. So far it has only gotten scratched up a little. As far as side imaging, it does not work as well on the front of the boat, but it does work, there are a lot of guys that use it up front. The image does get distorted and the imaging does work better at between 4-5 mph.
Humminbird does offer an exchange for your transducer if you prefer a trolling motor puck for 2d sonar applications. I am not sure about the DI units, if there is one available yet or not for the trolling motor.
Thanks for all the advice. I didn't think of the trolling motor messing with the side imaging. Gonna take all that into consideration when I purchase and install the fish finder. Thanks again
I bought a puck for my sonar unit last month and have a spare for a hummingbird 500 unit transom mount if anyone wants it. It came with the transom mount and I had to buy the puck. I think most of them do anymore and they charge an arm and a leg for the pucks.

Humminbird has a transducer exchange program where all you pay is shipping and they will exchange an unused transom transducer for a trolling motor transducer.
