All I remember is a guy told me once a half grown ground hog was good.

Ive heard "old timers" talking about how good ground hogs are to eat so im wondering if anyone has any info on preparing and cooking ground hog. I know they have a lot of fat on them so i would think baking in a oven would be the best method. Or maybe smoking and or grilling them in such a manner the fat will melt and roll off the meat.
And yes im being serious due to the fact i live in a town that is full of ground hogs and since there are so many of them i might as well take advantage of the situation. And because they arent factory farmed and pumped full of steroids and antibiotics im thinking they are probably much healthier to eat than most of what is found in the meat section of the local grocery stores.

We ate them all the time when I was younger and hunted them. Mom would bake them in an oven bag with barbeque sauce and onions and they were Delicious!! Small to medium size is best but they all are good.
Slow grilled would probably be good. Let us know how it turns out.

Younger ones are more tender, but you can eat any of them.Mom always either par-boiled and then baked them or fried them like chicken.
If you eat too many, when a stranger shows up you tend to run under the bed and whistle at them![]()

Use Yahoo or Goggle and search for ground hog recipes. They are available out there. If you cook some let us know how it works out.
