    Whats up at Patoka?

Does anyone have a recent update on whats going on with the Bluegill, crappie and Bass at Patoka. Was hoping to get there next week but it is looking like the week of the 15th.

Do you thjink they will be spawning by then?

Is anyone else going the week of the 15th? Thanks Tech

I am avoiding Patoka right now as they are pulling it down at almost 1300 feet. By that time it should be down where they want it and settled. Unless we have some really bad weather I would think you are planning on coming at a good time.

Raporter is correct in that they are dropping the lake. Crappie are plentiful but small. I am catching enough good fish for dinner, just don't invite too many friends. I have only caught one BG and a couple of bass while crappie fishing. Hope this helps.

Probably a good idea as they are now drawing it down at 1448 fps. It is now just under 4 feet high.

Can you tell if there is any current in the lake when they let that much water flow throught the system? I'm not at Patoka that much to know about any current.

Patoka is so much smaller than KY Lake an the other big Corp of Engineer lakes.

Even if I can't see the current I'd bet that the fish can detect it when it's there.

If there were no wind at all I would think you could notice it at the bridges. Just a guess though.

That would make sense. Areas where the flow is constricted should have the highest flow rates in those areas.

I just don't get up to Patoka as much these days. Gas prices and other obligations have kept me away.

I'd love to retire up at Patoka Lake and live near that lake or near KY or Barkley Lakes.

I went out to a local strip pit and caught about 20 crappie yesterday afternoon. I didn't get out until after 4 pm and fished until about 7 pm. The crappie at this strip pit are not as fat as those at Patoka so I threw a lot of the little ones back. I enjoyed the day as it was my second trip this years. I may go again today but the wind is out of the North and brisk today. And it's cooler today than it was yesterday.

Getting out of the wind at Patoka? That would take a miracal or an act of god. LOL The winds at Patoka like to swirel though the hills and can come from all directions thoughout the day. But if you can get a day when the air is calm that's a great time to fish those deep water brush piles. As boat control is easy when there is no wind at all.
