Tim I'm actually thinking about putting my Mater plants out later part of next week.

Ok...with ball sports fading out I guess we'll turn to horse racing and gardening...couple of my favorite things during spring time in Kentucky.
I realize it's early still...normally I don't set out tomato plants until Derby Day...I was just wondering if anyone has put anything out yet.
All I've done thus far is till the ground a little...I'm holding off still.

I'll wait till Derby to put out my tomatoes.
We're planting a bigger garden this year. I figure if Obama gets re-elected I'll need a bigger garden to feed myself. If he gets defeated, I'll need a bigger garden to feed myself.
Planning on green beans, tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, onions and what ever else Mrs. Tyme has planned for me. I think it's a waste of space to plant sweet corn. Mrs. Tyme will probably try to sneak in some okra but I can't stand the stuff.
Seems to me that you've missed out the most important spring time activity: fishing

O my, we have 5 rows of peas, 3 rows of onions, 1 row of carrots, a row of leaf lettuce, a quarter row of reddishes (sp), only 1 tomato plant right now, for early tomatos. Not to hard to cover one up if the weather gets that cold again. Also have half a row of cabbage, quarter row of brussel sprouts, and a half row of brocolli to put out tonight. We have also planted many fruit trees this year & 75 strawberry plants. Also 24 asparagas (sp) roots.

Here in L'ville, the average date of the last frost is 4/19. Now that's an average; some years it's earlier, some later. I checked on WAVE3's web site (they're usually pretty darn good) on April 1st and their 10-day forecast wasn't predicting any temps under the mid-40's. Given the way this past winter and spring have gone so far, I think we've seen the last frost, so I went ahead and took the plunge and planted tomatoes. I went to Starview Greenhouses outside La Grange and picked up 10 plants, and some herb plants (sage, fennel, oregano). I won't bore with the details but one variety I found that was interesting is "Cherokee Purple," which the sign described as an "oblate, pinkish purplish fruit." I'm looking forward to trying those! But everything I planted was plants that I bought; I am holding off on planting seeds. I will be planting a ton of basil and some dill here soon, but the weather needs to be a little more consistently warm for that.
I started some pepperocini peppers from seeds not long ago. Going to wait as long as I can before putting them in the garden...I think cold weather is still on the horizon. I've seen it snow/sleet during Thunder Over Louisville a few times, which is still two weeks away.
Too early for tomatoes, but with the warm spring it's been great for all the early stuff I grow.So far I have 42 Broccoli plants,24 cabbage plants, two 75 foot rows of Sugar Snap Peas,a 15' by 3 ' bed of leaf lettuce, two 25' rows of white onions, and about 50 Georgia Sweet Onion sets.Ok...with ball sports fading out I guess we'll turn to horse racing and gardening...couple of my favorite things during spring time in Kentucky.

I was working on planting 50 lbs of Red Pontiac Potatoes and 25 ponds of Kennebec Potatoes until a big Thunderstorm popped up here just now.
Some people are taking a chance and planting Sweet Corn a month ahead of time,I may put a few rows in and try my luck, but I think we'll get another frost before it's all said and done.
Been amending this old clay soil on this farm to put in an acre of Blueberries as soon as the plants show up.I started several varieties of Apple,Pear,Peach, and Cherry trees as well last year too.
I may not be rich in my old age,but I won't go hungry![]()
Boys I realize it's to early for Tomatoe's but I wait to late every year. I can always cover them up real good. However they are talking about a possible freeze next week, that I can't cover up, I'll wait just a little bit longer.
Question for you fellas. Very new at the garden but past couple of years a cumcumber beetle has taken me out. I have tried some sprays but would love some advice. Thanks Ryan.
Ryan, Seven dust should work. Cover them with the seven. You have to remember to do it again after rains...
