O my, we have 5 rows of peas, 3 rows of onions, 1 row of carrots, a row of leaf lettuce, a quarter row of reddishes (sp), only 1 tomato plant right now, for early tomatos. Not to hard to cover one up if the weather gets that cold again. Also have half a row of cabbage, quarter row of brussel sprouts, and a half row of brocolli to put out tonight. We have also planted many fruit trees this year & 75 strawberry plants. Also 24 asparagas (sp) roots.

Here in L'ville, the average date of the last frost is 4/19. Now that's an average; some years it's earlier, some later. I checked on WAVE3's web site (they're usually pretty darn good) on April 1st and their 10-day forecast wasn't predicting any temps under the mid-40's. Given the way this past winter and spring have gone so far, I think we've seen the last frost, so I went ahead and took the plunge and planted tomatoes. I went to Starview Greenhouses outside La Grange and picked up 10 plants, and some herb plants (sage, fennel, oregano). I won't bore with the details but one variety I found that was interesting is "Cherokee Purple," which the sign described as an "oblate, pinkish purplish fruit." I'm looking forward to trying those! But everything I planted was plants that I bought; I am holding off on planting seeds. I will be planting a ton of basil and some dill here soon, but the weather needs to be a little more consistently warm for that.
