I have been slow to the swim bait craze but I have gotten interested in an angle that I saw via in-fisherman. Doug Stange has been promoting using Berkley swim baits on jig-heads fishing for many species. What he emphasizes is the "flutter" action of the tails and how you can even feel that thump -- almost like a spinner bait when the head and tail are propely balanced. But what he is doing is fishing these tails on larger jig heads -- 1/2 oz or larger to achieve that affect. I recently purchased my first pack of yum swim baits thinking the same thing but tried them on 1/8 oz heads only to realize that the only way they thump is if you pull them hard. Are there any swim bait bodies out there that will give a good thump fishing them more slowly on lighter weights? That's the swim bait I could get interested in. The heavier setups would be interesting fishing deep around drop-offs and such but I would like something to fish shallow like now in the spring when the fish are up...
