Your right about Mercury not causing cancer. All it does is poison the central nervous system and lead to impetance.

PCB and other chemcials can lead to cancer. There are plenty of other chemicals dumped into the Ohio River.

Just remember when they issue fish consumption advisories it's all based on stastistics and probabilities. It's not a certain thing that if you eat 100 fish you WILL get cancer. No it does not work that way.

But in general the more fish you eat that are contaminated the more likely you have more mercury entering your body. Heck I have mercury in my fillings in my teeth. Some people claim that the mercury in the fillings leaches out into your mouth and body over time. Other, say that's hogwash?

You could easily get buy with eating some crappie out of the Ohio River every day for the rest of your life and you May NOT be affected by the chemicals that are in those fish OR you may be Affected. All we know is that if you eat a lot of fish vs few fish your probablity of getting disease or sick increases. It's up to everyone as an individual to make the choice on whether they want to eat those fish or not? My recommendation is the eat them in moderation and be on the safe side.

I love fried crappie. I use to eat it all the time but since I had open heart surgery I bake my fish these days. Add some margarine and lemon juice to the fish along with some Mrs Dash Seasoning and they are umm goooooood.
