Re: Ted Nugent, when is enough, enough?

There are left wing nutjobs and there are right wing nutjobs.

While I agree with some of the things that Nugent says, I think he does an excellent job in a big spotlight of being controversial and giving the media fodder for making all sportsmen look like right wing nutjobs.

The fact is that most of us fall somewhere in the middle.

I don't know what I think about the high fence hunting deal. If hunting is truly 100% about the challenge of the sport, nobody would be using high tech ballistics weaponry with 9 bazillion times zoom scopes and all of the "unfair advantages" that those provide. We'd all be using recurve bows like the Indians. There's a challenge. As man has evolved, and wildlife hasn't, we've closed the gap rapidly on "the challenge" aspect of it all.

Fencing in 10,000 acres on some private game ranch is looked at as unsportsmanlike, but using a $2000 rifle with a $1000 scope to pick off whitetail on the plains of Kansas, while in the latest and greatest camo pattern, covered in the latest scent block, and riding in on my $10,000 ATV packed with all the gear is perfectly sportsmanlike. I don't know.

Hunting is as much about the gear and the entertainment than anything...and let's not forgot the MONEY made by the industry. It's not really about population control and it's not really about meat for the fridge and you all know it. It's about the heritage of hunting and the fact that we like playing with guns and bows...we enjoy flexing our muscle from our spot on the food chain...and we enjoy competing with our buddies over points on a buck or beards on turkeys...might as well quit sugar coating it. I'm not condemning it, I'm just calling it what it is. It does provide some population control and that's a good thing, but that's not truly why we do it - That's just a side effect.

As for The Nuge's game law infractions, he should be penalized like any other citizen. It's tough for me to look at someone who has such a loud voice for the American sportsman that is breaking laws in the process - Not cool.

I'm not saying Ted's a complete douchebag...but I'm not saying I'm a huge Nuge fan either. Sometimes he will make a comment on 2nd Amendment and I will give him a "Nuge Rocks" and go on about my day. It is what it is. Ted says a lot of the things that some of us think, especially on gun control, and he's not afraid to say it. I do have this guy sitting on my left shoulder sometimes though wondering how much of it is genuine and how much of it is Hollywood??

The problem is ego. Can make you famous, but also can make you think you're above the law.
