Any fishing on Cumberland in early July?

Unless you stay back in the creeks away from the Ohio Navy I would not recommend a canoe and a teenager lake Cumberland in July, especially early July.

Dude seriously trust me on this one, endangering his life. Now if you stay in the backs of the coves, yes you can catch catfish, some bass very early and very late. Bluegill can be very good especially deep with slip bobbers.

To many muscle boats, cruisers, Ocean liners ect on the big C in July, don't do it with a canoe....

Float the river instead.......Wolf Creek down to rainbow run. And if they are not generating, you can paddle back up it............

LOTS of rainbows and browns to be caught that way, and you might stick a serious striper too.

Mark speaks the truth. You would not catch me out in a Jon Boat much less a canoe in June, July or August on Cumberland. Ohio Navy, Big Fast Boats, a little 90 Proof thrown in for good measure and a canoe might as well be a popsicle stick in the water.

Do not underestimate what mark is saying. Its crazy dangerous in a motor boat at times a canoe is just asking for it. Like geo said hit the river with a silver black or gold black ac shiner white or yellow rooster tail and have a blast. Without getting killed in the process

I agree with every thing the other folks have said. They know the lake. I also understand if your going anyway, you still have to find something for the young one to do.

A compromise. Have the kid stay in the no wake zone around marina's and bobber fish. Examples: at Alligator 2 in Wolfe Creek, work the bank on the far side from the marina. At Jamestown, in the no wake, work the rock walls on the left side or right side or behind state dock in the no wake zone.
Grider Hill is the same, look to the right as you come down the ramp. or Across the lake at the shoreline and rock walls.

I agree with all, the boat traffic is heavy and a lot are party folks. So error on the side of safety and stay in the no wakes areas.

Another thought, if you have a boat, tow the canoe/kayak out to one of the creeks, get well back in, and use your boat as a block while the kid fishs between you and the bank. Lilly Creek would work for this 2/3's back up in the creek as an example. Greasey Creek behind Jamestown would work too.

Last thought. Expensive I know. But give the kid a memory of a life time and send him out with a Striper guide. As a teen, going by himself, with a guide he will learn a lot, be safe, and catch fish he will remember for life.

I have to confess. Not my ideas. Its what Stripernut and the guides do to keep me out of trouble. Some day they will let me go out and play by my self :-)

bob you know the deal.....when there is more liquid OUTSIDE the boat than INSIDE.....you can go outside the no wake bouys (if your wife is with you you can go out of view of jtown marina)
