creek mite b rite.we got 5 walleyes sat nite and lots of half harted hits, all the walleyes were on redfins and hit VERY LIGHTLY.only got 3 short strips.
I agree with Creek also. That is what Walleye do...If it was stripers wanting the bait, you would not have had that problem.
As Andrew says.....''Frickin Walleye''
Yep, Walleye. You might be able to pick them up by laying the pole down (just leave the bait in the water) and throwing a bucktail or sluggo type bait right beside it in deeper water. Sometimes they'll come back and hit a second bait when they won't re-strike the top water.
Oh, I wouldn't do this on the first short strike. If it's a few stripers, that top water plug might get hit again. Another option is to have someone else throw a bucktail. I like to have a few different baits working if there are other people in the boat anyway. If one bait is killing them, then sure, have everyone switch to that. But many times they may take a different bait when they short strike or don't strike another.
Thanks. I would have loved to have gotten into a mess of walleye. They are delicious! In all my years fishing there I have only caught 2 walleye. I have always been so focused on striper that I never took the time to figure out how to catch those Wallys. If anyone wants to give the 101 I would like to read about it. Thanks for all your help!
