depth finder recommendations

have been out of fishing for ten years and just started restoring a 25 year old boat that came back home to me after that ten year break. while she was gone the other owners changed all the electronics etc. browsing through the sales catalogues makes my head hurt. so much has changed with depth finders in ten years. my question is.....for someone mainly fishing buddy tournaments and a few open tournaments what depth finder do you like the best? i was a lowrance person before,but the is a transom mount transducer and power cable already on boat,so would be open to anything. not intersested in the $1500 stuff. worth more than the boat and i can't do much with computers. LOL looking at the $300- $500 range.

Lowrance all the way. If your cables are Lowrance with the gray ends, I"ve got a Lcx-18 gps/fishfinder Id sell for $200. Also got a nonworking lms 330 Lowrance will give $50 trade in for.

Was a Lowrance guy for years but their quality has suffered the last 4 or 5 years. Made the switch to Humminbird 4 years agos and have been totally satisfied. In the price range you are looking for the 597ci hd or the 587 ci hd would make you a decent unit. Definitely get an hd unit though much more detailed

Depneding on where you boat, do consider a unit with an interanl GPS. It's saved my but on the Ohio, and on Cumberland, and Nolin when the fog sets in and I want to go to the house.
