Re: Strange things that happen on the lake

An owl in full stealth mode came in from behind and plucked my buzzbait off the surface about 20' in front of the boat. As he banked and flew back past I shouted and he released it. Thankfully, neither the bait nor the trailer hook snagged his talons. He landed on the shore and cast me the evil eye. Had to put the dog on boat probation for failing to pick him up on radar.

Was down in FL watching a group of guys fish an intercoastal inlet, the small ones they were tossing to the pelicans, after a while they had about ten pelicans waiting for lunch. A guy lands a small one and instead of flipping it to the birds he holds it out for them to see and when they come rushing over, he shoved it down the back of one of his buddies shorts. CHAOS!! It ended with the guy with a fish in his pants tossing his buddy into the ocean, I still laugh every time I think about it.

Several years ago, I caught a duck in the middle of the night on Cumberland top water fishing then last year I caught a bat. I thought it was a leaf on my line until it sqeeked at me for gabbing it to put it off.

We will see what happens this year.

Throwing a weightless Texas-rigged worm on top of matted moss in a farm pond a few years ago. I'd throw it up on the bank and drag it on top of the moss. After a few twitches a HUGE bullfrog ninja-stalks up behind my worm. I see it, and twitch the worm a little farther out. Ninja Frog follows. He followed it at least ten feet until it got near the edge, then he pounced on it.

I set the hook (a little easier than usual) and reeled him in. Found out frogs don't fight as hard as bass, but it's really hard to get a frog to open its mouth when it doesn't want to.

Many moons ago a buddy and I camped out on 18 mile island in search of some big cats.To make along story short the cooler got light and we had set the clickers and laid down on our sleeping bags. I woke up with a funny feeling something was watching me....As I lay there I turned my head to the left and was face to face with a skunk....Now if you boy's have ever been close enough to a fresh discharge you know it will make you woof your cookies....Fortunatly for me I had just enough liquid refreshment in me to just smile, close my eye's and pray he walk away.......and he did.:0
