some lures that are easy to fish and produce well when i was learning was a shakey head as it was very easy to fish and produces pretty good around rock and timber or when they get a little deeper.Tip the jig head with a Pro senko or straight tail worm and hang on.

Also hard to beat Rattle baits or crankbaits,simple to use and can produce some quality fish.I tend to stick with Rapala ,bandit,Bomber as they are all reasonably priced anywhere from 4-10 bucks and do very well.
