Boy I remember the day back in the 80`s that the avg size was 34 in,,what a shame
Yeah those were the days. We actually spooled penn 320s with 50 lb mono ,and worried sometimes we were "under-gunned" ! Lol. On the bright side my daughter caught a 39 inch , 24.7 pounder last monday so there are a couple gooduns swimmin around. That is her second ky trophy fish this year, a giant brownfish and this striper, one to go for masyer angler in the same year. 22 inch stripers are a sad state of the union for sure though
Congrats to the daughter, but you didn't post a photo!Yeah those were the days. We actually spooled penn 320s with 50 lb mono ,and worried sometimes we were "under-gunned" ! Lol. On the Penn reels, same here, have me boat set up with Penn 320's and 30 Lb mono. Total overkill for today's striper population, but I do occasionally catch the big one, but then to my distress I wake up.

Hey Stripernut. I'll post them for you if you want. Send to my phone, I'll download and add your comments. Glad to help if it works for you. Just be sure you tell me which one's you want posted.....I'd hate to accidentally post pictures of all those 6 inch Stripers you snagged with the Redfins that had the rack on the back of it. :-)Thats funny gary. Good news is you don't have to worry about confusion. Nobody on here would ever think I caught that many fish.![]()
Hahahahaha......and it wasnt a redfin it was a thunderstick
Does anyone know why the average fish size has been reduced so much?? Is it due to the dam draw down or does the problem go back farther?? Is is to much pressure, too little education, any ideas??
Answer: "D" all of the above
plus a copepod parasite infestation.
BUT....and this is a big but....these fish are looking healthier than i have seen them in a long time, alot of very fat healthy looking fish. and they are fighting harder than last summer when they were just plain flat out weak , hungry and sickly
think we're on the way back up![]()
I've also noticed these 20-23" fish are fighting like freight trains. Maybe without as many of those big fish they think they are the big dawgs.
Has anybody heard anything new on this?
Has the size limit been lowered to 22" yet or are they still thinking about it?
Thanks in advance for the replies.
waterwings sorry forgot to post....
spoke with kdfwr rep again on the 15th and i am happy to announce i finally pinned them down to a "definite maybe date of possibly the middle of july....or maybe not"
no kidding that is almost word for word the response i got
correct me if im wrong....but do i recall this reg change thing originally containing the word "EMERGENCY"? lololololol !!!!!!!!
by the time this runs its due process all the stripers in c-land will be 25 inches !!!!
i wish they woudl just drop it , seriously, these fish have so much to eat now and they are looking healthier than they have i a couple of years, good and fat for the most part, a good summer of growing and the 22 inchers will be 24 inchers in no time.
JMO....
