    Drop Shot

Trying some new things as the water gets HOT. I have a drop shot tied on a spinning reel but I question if I'm using the correct rod. What action and length do you use?

You want something very limber so you can shake the bait without pulling the sinker off the bottom...You're typical spinning drop shot rod is 7'-7'2 and ML, M, or MH...I know Shimano and several other companies have rods designed specifically for this technique...They usually have a ton of tip to them...It can be a very useful technique for very finicky fish...I took it to Nolin and caught 40 or 50 to really get the feel for it and have caught some good KY's on Cumberland in 30-40ft on it...It's just like everything else in the tackle box, it has its time and place

Use drop shot if clear water conditions. i use a custom 7.0 ml spinning rod and 8lb florocarbon line with a swivel and leader for no line twist. Works great. I like to use 4" worms like a flirt worm or zoom meathead in watermelon or shad color. I will cast to the bank and hop it back to boat. Don't be afraid to throw it shallow!

Hey man dont get so caught up in the right rod or right line. I use any spinning rod from 6'6 to 7'6. It would be good to have a more limber action though. Line you can use anything from 6lb(if your crazy) to 10lb. When it comes to weights i change the shape a little bit and then run wire through a bullet weight. Bait i typically use a 6in robo martens magic. Prolly a little more than you were looking for but just trying to help.

You will be better off running your 858 in 2d sonar. I run my 596 in clear mode (Max mode) in real deep water and have no trouble seeing the fish, bait fish or drop shot. I can even see my bait and the weight.
