Friend of mine who used to be a guide on Cave Run was on vacation this week so a buddy and I drove down to fish with him. We fished for Muskie first thing yesterday morning, my buddy had two follows including one that might have went 50 inches, it was a giant, but never would take. After the sun got up and heated things up we decided to do some crappie fishing. We ended up catching somewhere around 100 between the three of us. We kept 30, biggest one was just shy of 14 inches. Most were 9-10 inches and chunky. Also had a 9 inch bluegill and about a 3-4 pound channel cat.
On the water at daylight to chase the muskie again this morning and one buddy had a follow and then I had a 40 incher on briefly next to the boat. One bite and I lost it. Water temps were 69-70 degrees in the morning and warming to about 72-73 in the day.
Also, all of those crappie had eggs and were presumably getting ready to spawn on this new moon I am assuming, but I sure didn't expect to catch any crappie this time of year with eggs.
