    Re: Sunglasses.. Cheap vs expensive

I have 2 pairs of maui jims and one pair of oakley's polarized. The maui sunglasses are 8 years old and 4 years old, both still in great condition and the best polarized glasses I have. The oakley half jackets are also great and about 3 years old, but the maui jims are a whole lot better. I have never used costa, but hear great things about them. Don't waste your money on cheapos. This is one of the areas you do not want to go cheap on if you fish a lot.

    Re: Sunglasses.. Cheap vs expensive

I used to wear oakleys, had some ray bans as well. At one time told myself I was never buying expensive glasses again. Life slowed down a bit and I learned to take care of things better, got two pair of costa del mars, and I will never own another brand again. I have one pair that stays with the boat and is used for fishing only, the other are my day to day pair. Better design and materials than oakleys IMO.

I bought a pair of costas probably 4drunk yrs ago. Dont clean them with anything but saop and woater or just ur t shirt. The ph is wrong for the lenses. It wore off the reflective stuff. I need to send them in for new lenses. But i couldnt live without them. So i saved my bps money and bought a new pair of 580scostas. They r great now i can send in my old pair. U cant see without them. After u have a pair. U can see better driving in the rain. U will not be sorry

    Re: Sunglasses.. Cheap vs expensive

It seems I have about every manufactures glasses out there. There is a lot more to glasses than just cheap vs expensive. Color is super important and so is the material they are mode of.

Amber is good low light but not too good for sight fishing, Copper is the best for sight fishing because of the contrast. if you want a good all around Solar Bat has a moss green that is hard to beat. I have a few pairs of moss green that I use for most all my fishing. Then I have a pair of light amber Habor Vision that are great for fog and early morning, and a copper pair of Costa's for sight fishing.

Solar Bat's are priced right, Habor Vision are also reasonable, Costa's are nice but a little costly. Jody Only wrote a great article on what color and type glasses to use.

    Hope that helps some.

I've used the cheap ones for a while now. I've got like three or four Berkley's from Wally world that do the trick. However, I'm starting to get headaches from wearing them and I don't like that. Thinking about spending some money on a better pair but the cheap ones do the trick IMO. Not sure why they give me headaches though.

Fisherman are their own worst enemy, we'll buy hundreds of dollars of baits, then hang them on the bottom, breakoff and not think a thing about it but we will cut corners on glasses....you only get 2 eyes why use cheap lenses? I've had good luck out of Costa's and their customer service when I've broke them (my fault lol) has been good.

Go for the better glasses. You will thank yourself. Just put em on and leave em, even on cloudy days. I have the Oakley monster dawgs and love em. They really stick to my big head. You can definately see better with quality sunglasses.
