    Facebook

I can't fathom that Facebook is valued at $104 Billion, shares picked up .23 cents in day 1 of trading, even though the NASDAQ was a total disaster in handling the volume.

Worth more than companies like McDonald's and VISA after 1 day on Wall Street. I use Facebook, along with millions, but I think it's over-valued something crazy and there's no way in hell that I'd invest in it long term.

I agree with you. This entire facebook thing is waaaaaaaay over rated. The media is making to big of a fuss over it. Actually what I'd like to know is how do they put a value on this electronic gadgetry? Sure...if compared to large cities or countries, then facebook is one of the largest cities or countries in the world when taking into account the number of users it has...but seriously, what does facebook produce that makes worth one red cent? I have not purchased anything at all through facebook...I don't know anyone else who has either. I certainly don't pay for using facebook...and if they did decide to charge me I doubt VERY seriously if I would continue using it.

Anytime you have that many "eyes" looking at one place, there's value in advertising...and you see more and more ads. Having a Facebook presence is also a "must have" now for businesses. It's a serious resource for promoting your business and linking it with your website and customers.

I see a lot of value...I see something that has revolutionized digital communication...just not $104 Billion worth unless they can generate massive ad revenue to satisfy shareholders. The business model is pretty easily replicated, but the brand recognition is massive...anybody who tried to duplicate would forever be compared to Facebook. Facebook is addictive.

There's value....just doesn't seem like that much value....

MySpace used to be "it" until Facebook came along...it's only a matter of time before something else takes hold and becomes "it". Google tried, and failed...I don't see them giving up...I look for Apple to roll out "it" as they have laid out the groundwork for it and are continually growing their empire.

I was late signing into FB as I didn't see the need in it. It is useful in connecting to far away relatives and friends but I won't pay for the privilege.

More power to the new billionaires.

What may keep Facebook from going the way of MySpace is not the individual user. It's the way corporations and small businesses are using it as their main window on the world.

Yea...the place I used to work is all linked in with Facebook, etc...even though it's advertising and such, I think having a presence on Facebook could backfire on an owner too...or at least create controversy for a company...can't keep everyone happy...who's to say someone who has had some bad business dealings with a company advertising on facebook, posting updates, etc, that they might decide to give the truth about their bad experience for all to see? Always pro's and con's I guess.

Bottom line for me is...once they put a price on it for me to use it, I'm outa here! Same thing with fishin.com...no way I'd pay a nickle to get on this site...Guess I'm old school in my thinking.

Nope my friend I think you hit it right on the head. I agree, I'd never pay a penny to Facebook. My view is they went public, and then would use charging folks to use the site as the way to show revenue potential and so increase the value of the stock. I think FB believes they have become so essential to some folks who are hooked on it, that those folks could never consider life without it, and will pay willingly.

    I think that will backfire.

The FBI and CIA ought buy out Facebook, without public notice, to covertly collect people face pictures for recognition purposes.

    FB.......FBI........?

Okay, I have to go now because I think the Japanese are building an airstrip in the alfalfa field south of Elizabethtown to stage future bombing raids on Glasgow.

So facebook goes public, and then the stock tumbles. Today I get these neat little facebook notices where they want me to give them my cell phone number (supposedly to aid log in) and then a note saying I have an assigned facebook email account, and if I want I can chnage it to another one. I read that as "Give us your REAL email account". Me thinks they are trying to collect more info so they can sell it. Me thinks if this stuff continues, me might just go back to sending emails to my friends. What ya think?

    Re: Facebook

In the first or second sentence of my first post on this thread I questioned how they put a dollar amount on Facebook (electronic communications in general)...so what, people get on there, look at faces of friends or whatever...what's it worth? Apparently not $38.00 dollars per share like the guru's were originally thinking....Plus now it looks like there may be some scandulous and shady dealings just prior to Facebook going public.
