    sliding cork fishing

Do you all use a swivel when pan fishing with a cork. I have always put on stopper bead cork sinker then hook. I noticed alot of people put a swivel between the hook and sinker.Any benefits to this.

I use a barrel swivel for a few reasons. It allows me to tie a leader on of any length. It also allows me to use a 4 or 6lb leader on 6 or 8lb main line so if I get hung up the hook will straighten or break off rather then having to completely re-rig. The swivel also allows the minnows to swim more freely due to the leader length and weight. Preventing line twist is another reason to use one. Plus they only cost around $1 a pack.

Amen to all of what Fishfry said, that sliding cork and bead go away when your line breaks at the wrong spot. You have to experiment with the bobber, sinker, tippet length at times. Sometimes when something, for me usually the tippet is too limp compared to the mainline, you get some twist and knots when the rig is flying through the air. Using a jig like a popeye can also mess with the equation
