Dad / Son First Double and then some

I took my 8 year old son Josh to my Dads pond yesterday. He had caught 27 Catfish Saturday in a kids tourney and wanted to fish for Catfish. When we get there he says he wants to Bass fish. So I tie him on a Kelly's worm and he starts slinging it out into the water. I am still rigging up for Catfish and he has 2 on the bank before I can even cast. He says "This Bass fishing is EASY". I get my hunk of liver in the water and he catches 2 more and says I got 4 how many do you have". Well that was enough for me as I reeled in the liver and cut the rig off and tied on a Kelly's worm. First cast and I catch one and said to Josh that I had 1. Next cast and I hook up and said something as he was running over and cast to the very spot that I was fighting the small fish and boom, he hooks up with our first Double. The best 2 Ten inch Bass I ever seen. Kelly's bite slowed so I tied us on floating Rapalas and that is when the real fun started. Josh commenced to catch 15 Bass on his topwater Rapala. Funny as heck to watch him set the hook when the fish would bust his Rapala on top. We had perfect overcast conditions with a little chop on the water. I ended up with around 30 and it was the best 45 fish day I ever had. There was no size to the Bass, but a 12 incher hitting topwater on a Zebco 33 rod/reel combo to an 8 year old is like a 5 pounder on a G Loomis to us. One of the Best Days I have ever had as a Father. If you are a Dad and don't take your kid fishing you are missing out.

We get in the truck to leave and Josh says "Dad I had fun, thanks for taking me fishing". Every time we go and every time he says something like that makes me want to take him every day and I can't wait until the next time already. We have been 4 times in a week and take the fun he is having times a Gazillion and you will know how much fun I am having

Awesome story. Days fishing with my kids are days that I enjoy, even though they do more fishing than I do when they go.

Awesome man! I know exactly what you mean. It's the best feeling in the world to see the looks on their faces when they catch one. I have a 5 year old girl who loves going out on dad's boat, driving it, and catching fish. She usually only catches bluegill on a worm and bobber, but her excitement is that of mine like when I catch a 5 pound bass. I usually don't fish cause I'm too busy baiting her hook of helping her take the bluegill off, and I'm always looking at spots thinking, man I wish I was bass fishin is throw a jig there, or a spinner by that tree - haha. But I have just as much fun taking her and watching her. Awesome story man, glad you all did good and got a double!
