Do I need one of those DNR lake permit stickers on a jon boat at Bluegrass FWA? I was gonna take a small jon boat with no motor out there this weekend to get to a spot to bank fish, I was told I needed one...I might add the guy who told me this has been known to speak from his rear end every now and then. I looked on the DNR site but found no mention of needing a lake permit at blue grass....did I miss something or am I rite to assume that if nothing is found then there is no need for one?
Yes you need a non-motorized DNR sticker, or if you plan on putting a motor on it at some point, get the motorized. I think it's funny when I see kayaks without their non-motorized sticker and when I say something to them they act like I am crazy.Do I need one of those DNR lake permit stickers on a jon boat at Bluegrass FWA? Okey dokey...thanks! I rarely fish from a boat, but I found a promising looking spot that I'd like to try for catfish... unfortunately I can't reach that side without a considerable hike. Guess I'll pack light and give it a try while I wait for my sticker.
You can probably go to the Sugar Ridge office (heard of one, never been there) and get the sticker instead of waiting for it in the mail. Otherwise, pack some bug spray and check yourself for ticks!
No you do NOT need a lake permit to fish Bluegrass Pits. You do however need one to fish the Reservoirs like Patoka and Monroe Lakes. That's what I have read on this subject.
But to be sure you might want to call Sugar Ridge and talk to the property manager up there to verify this.
I see the Indiana Conservation Officers patrolling the Bluegrass F&W area all the time and they never said anything to me or anyone else that I know of about not having a permit.
But if you go up to Patoka Lake they will definatly give you a ticket if you don't have that sticker on your boat.
You probably see a lot of boats that fish Patoka having these stickers also fishing on Bluegrass from time to time . This could be adding to the confusion.

Yes, Moveon is correct. You can read more about it here...No you do NOT need a lake permit to fish Bluegrass Pits. You do however need one to fish the Reservoirs like Patoka and Monroe Lakes. That's what I have read on this subject.

Well I sure hope he didn't listen to me and go buy a $5 sticker haha. I thought all properties managed by DNR needed one, but obviously was wrong. Has Bluegrass always been this way? I seem to recall a CO a few years ago checking my boat for a tag, but he could have been just looking at the other tags.
P.S. And are they listing all of the properties that require it on that website? I know for a fact that Huntingburg Lake had the sign that states a permit is required by the ramp last fall. Seems a little strange.
I'm not sure exactly where I read this. I think it was on the Indiana DNR web site somewhere. And it was probably when they first started making us buy the IDNR lake Permits for Patoka Lake. I know I bought two of them over the years. If I got up to Patoka this year I'll have to buy a new one. I don't mind as it's not that expensive and it helps support the IDNR fishing programs and lakes. It's a tax that I pay to fish.
I'm just glad that I don't need one for fishing Bluegrass. As I fish that pit more than Patoka.
And I'll be posting a new thread about the Lake Master IN/OH fishing maps of Patoka lake soon. Just be aware that it's not that good for Patoka but better for lake Monroe.
I appreciate all the replies! Guess I'll grab the jon boat or the kayak this weekend and paddle to that spot that looked good. I rarely fish from a boat so I don't keep track of any new regulations...which is just laziness on my part. Thanks, folks.
