Jugging at Taylorsville

I'm by far no expert, barely know what I'm doing.

I read on google search that the main species of shad in Taylorsville is Blue Herring. So I have been using blue herring shad all this time and didn't know.
What I was using last weekend must of been farm raised blue herring,,, I bought them in a bait shop. They looked a little different however. Long story short that bait I bought was super stink nasty but it would only sit for about 5 or 10 minutes before it was getting bites. I'm used to it taking about 20 to 30 minutes to start getting good hits.

Thanks for the info. I guess I just need to catch some shad and set out some jugs. Any idea on how deep I should set them and where? I just want to show the kids a good time. This sounded like a lot of action to keep the kids interested

Just go for it, we had a pretty good system:
throw net
bait jugs
bring in the fish
We were going to the same area and getting diminishing returns. We then tried different baits, depth, hook type, and spots......
We did worse. In the end it's fishing and trying to change it up and figure out the fish is the fun part. I see guys out there that set trot lines, throw jugs, and then noodle while they are waiting. Maybe I am not trying hard enough.
